Patrick was bought up in Jersey and moved to Cosham at the age of 14 and has stayed local since then, currently living in Havant.
After spending 22 years as a service engineer, Patrick took over the Portchester Shop in January 2007. The shop, originally established in 2005 by the franchise director Brian West, is set in the small shopping precinct in the heart of Portchester but serves a wider audience from West Sussex through to East Southampton.
Patrick prides himself on ensuring the shop delivers excellent customer service to the expanding community that he serves. From out of hour service delivery, home visits to allow individuals to gain access to the products that help them maintain their independence, emergency call outs or the everyday attention to detail that aims to ensure every customer leaves satisfied. Patrick seeks to continuously develop and improve the service he offers to ensure customer needs are met and exceeded.

An experienced and qualified service engineer, Patrick is keen to help his customers not only make the right purchases for them, but also to keep their equipment in full reliable working order. Patrick has Certificates of Achievement with Pride, TGA and Days Healthcare for servicing and repairs of Powerchairs, Riser recliners, Scooters, Manual and electric hoists. Dealing with faults, regular services and repairs are all part of the service.

He has a long history in servicing (from commercial engineering firms to marine leisure) but Patrick is a person that likes to get it right, and doesn’t want to take additional time (charged to the customer) to learn as he goes along. Professionalism is important to Patrick and his commitment to training is on going.

With a background in servicing and family connections – mobility was an obvious choice. Having worked in a very commercial setting for years (engineering) Patrick felt that an industry that was about individuals and people was important to him. Approximately 8yrs ago Patrick achieved his Access to Health course with the intention to go into Social Work but what somewhat disillusioned about the shortcomings of the industry (ie paperwork before people) so never undertook the training, although he did work with physically and mentally disabled children for just over a year on a volunteer basis – shortly before the birth of his first son, when family commitments became the first priority. Patrick now has 3 young children.
Patrick wants to offer reliability, maintained independence and “a local shop” experience for everyone.

"The key issue for a mobility retailer is the individual service, the interest in people and the desire to make them feel involved and engaged," says Patrick. "The service that people can trust is an important aspect to promote as there has been so much unreliability (especially locally) from traders – the family aspect and the honesty are the key aspects I believe in."

There are lots of individual examples of Patrick going the extra mile for individual customers such as coming out to people on short notice, arranging lifts to hospital, dropping customers back home, customer care phone calls to check everything OK and looking out for individuals.
